The Best National Park Vrbo Stays in the USA: Your Ultimate Guide

Did you know that America’s national parks protect over 84 million acres of the most breathtaking and diverse landscapes in the country? From icy glaciers to white gypsum sand dunes, these protected areas attract over 300 million visitors each year, from all over the world.

We’ve spent years exploring the parks, beginning with our 2017 road trip to visit every single one. That journey completely shaped how we travel today. National parks have a way of pulling you in, and once you’ve experienced that magic, you’re hooked.

There’s one thing that we’ve learned along the way. Where you stay matters. The right home base can make a good park trip unforgettable, especially when you wake up close to trailheads or can watch the stars from a private deck or hot tub. To help you plan your trip and make the most of your national park experience, I’ve rounded up the best Vrbo stays in national parks across the USA. From cozy cabins to modern retreats, these are the places we’d book again and again.

The options for accommodation are endless these days, and choosing where to stay can be overwhelming. I always check Vrbo first because it offers much more than just a place to sleep. Vrbo homes provide a truly private retreat, flexible amenities, and a wide range of choices that feel authentic to each park.

Olympic National Park encompasses nearly one million acres and over 70 miles of rugged Washington coast. This national park truly has it all. Beautiful coastline, incredible hiking trails, and lush rainforest. Being so close to Seattle (only a three-hour drive), it’s one of my most visited national parks and, honestly, one of my favorites.

Olympic National Park is home to three unique ecosystems: glaciated mountains, ancient rainforests, and wild coastline. Visitors can travel through all of these ecosystems in just one day. Hiking to pine-filled mountain peaks, discovering an ancient temperate rainforest, and exploring endless miles of rugged beaches. And it doesn’t matter how many times you visit, there will always be something new to discover.

Like I said before, one of my favorite things about Vrbo is that you can find the coolest accommodation options that have been designed with the national parks in mind. Take this treehouse for example, it’s one of the most interesting places I’ve ever stayed, and it blends seamlessly into the natural landscape of Olympic National Park. 

This treehouse is set 20ft above the ground, nestled in the trees with a view of the Strait of Juan de Fuca. You can watch ships sail past and eagles soar while you have your morning coffee in the trees. The property also features a hot tub, sauna and cold plunge which are the perfect way to relax after a long day exploring the park. 

1. A-Frame Away on the Olympic Peninsula w/Hot Tub: This charming A-frame cabin shows off classic Pacific Northwest design, and it stands out as one of my favorite finds on Vrbo. Its central location lets you easily explore the entire peninsula from this home base.
2. Lakefront Cabin: If you want to be directly on the water in Olympic National Park, this Vrbo is everything you need and more. It sleeps six, so it’s perfect for traveling with family or friends.

Great Smoky Mountain National Park is the most visited national park in the country, with estimates of over 13 million visitors each year. This is partly due to its location in a more densely populated region of the country, but it doesn’t diminish the sheer beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains. My husband and I first visited the Smokies on our 2017 parks road trip, but we’ve since been back to chase the stunning fall colors that draw millions of visitors to this park each year.

Besides being one of the best places in the US to see incredible fall foliage, the Great Smoky Mountains are also home to some of the highest peaks on the East Coast, which makes this national park a hiker’s paradise, especially if you want to section hike parts of the Appalachian Trail. But even more surprising is the sheer amount of biodiversity in this park. In fact, I recently learned that the Smokies is the Most Biodiverse Unit of the National Park Service.

When planning a stay near the Great Smoky Mountains, I recommend staying in Gatlinburg. You’ll be just minutes from the park and close to restaurants, shops, and cafes. We stayed at this Vrbo during our last trip to the Smokies, and I’d book it again in a heartbeat.

​The home has everything you need for an incredible stay, plus you have the chance to see moose, deer, and black bears from your deck with an uninterrupted view of Mt LeConte. It’s truly such a special place.

1. Sky Bridge Luxury Cabin: This luxury cabin, just minutes from Gatlinburg, has everything you need for an unforgettable stay. Uninterrupted views of Mt LeConte, a hot tub, and big windows that let in so much natural light.
2. CastAway Waterfront Rustic Cabin: CastAway is a stunning, newly constructed cabin situated in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains. The porch overlooks the river, making it the perfect spot to unwind after a long day of hiking in the park.

Mount Rainier is a true gem of Washington State and hands down one of my favorite places in the world. I think by now I’ve visited this park more than 20 times, and I’ve never run out of incredible hikes, views, and experiences. Once again, it’s really accessible from Seattle, which means it’s the perfect addition to your Pacific Northwest trip.

Mount Rainier National Park has over 260 miles of hiking trails, but beyond that, it’s also one of the best places to see wildflowers in Washington State. You can hop in your car and explore the scenic roads that take you past wildflower meadows full of color. This is something I look forward to each year, and if you’re planning to visit during this time, I always recommend booking your accommodation in advance.

​You know how much I love to find the best cabins around the Pacific Northwest, and this is easily one of my favorites. With a hot tub and a sauna, you might just find yourself wishing you could move into this cabin in the woods forever. It’s secluded, but still close enough to the park that you could be hiking in less than half an hour.

1. River Vista Cabin with Mountain Views: This beautiful cabin near Mt. Rainier National Park is a true retreat. The hosts have created something special, and every detail shows genuine care and effort.
2. Modern A-frame in Wooded Wonderland: or if you’d like to stay in a classic A-frame cabin, I love this hidden gem. You’ll blend right into the trees around you at this Rainier escape.

Big Bend National Park is located in Texas, along the border with Mexico, and it covers just over 800,000 acres of rugged, desert terrain. Personally, I think that Big Bend is one of the most underrated national parks in the country. It was definitely one of the parks that surprised us the most. 

I recommend visiting in the spring when you have cooler temperatures and wildflowers blooming throughout the park. When we went, it was also so quiet, which I loved. The park has three main sections, with my favorite being the Rio Grande. It’s incredible to see the river cut through the canyons along the border.

Big Bend is also the only national park to have an entire mountain range within its borders, the Chisos Mountains. 

While you’re in West Texas, you can also visit the small desert city of Marfa, a unique artist town with its own equally unique and mysterious, colorful, and glowing orbs that are frequently seen at night in the surrounding area. 

People have been seeing these lights in the desert for over 135 years and while scientists have given a few different potential reasons for their appearance, they’re still a mystery that brings in travelers from all over.

This home is a restored 1920s adobe roadhouse that’s located just minutes from Big Bend National Park. The seasonal private pool is open from March to November, with an observation deck where you can see the entire Milky Way at night (this is a ‘dark sky’ area). This home has every comfort you need, while giving you a feeling of being far away from the rest of the world.

1. Off-Grid, Modern Cliff House: If you’re traveling with friends and need a bit more space, I highly recommend this Modern Cliff House that’s located just 15 minutes from Big Bend. This home is set on 20 acres of private desert and offers views that stretch for miles.
2. Stardust Big Bend Luxury A-Frame#1: or if you want to stay in Big Bend’s newest luxury property, book an A-frame cabin at Stardust Big Bend. I’m always on the lookout for the best A-frame cabin, and I have to say that these look pretty incredible.

Utah has some incredible national parks, but I think that Capitol Reef is probably the one that gets talked about (and visited) the least. Because of its location in the desert of Southern Utah, it’s another park that’s perfect for visits in the spring, and you’ll likely be able to add it to other national park trips within the state. If you want to do an entire Mighty 5 Roadtrip, here’s an itinerary you can steal. 

We loved Capitol Reef for its striking red sandstone cliffs, deep canyons, and unique rock features. Geographically, it’s very close to Moab (only a two-hour drive) with Arches and Canyonlands, but somehow the terrain looks completely different here.

​The Juniper House makes your perfect home base while exploring Capitol Reef. It’s conveniently located between Torrey Town and the national park, along the historic Highway 12. What really makes this place special is the 360-degree views out of every window.

​This would be the perfect place to unwind and relax after a long day exploring Capitol Reef Valley.

1. The Pinyon House With Excellent Views: if Juniper House is unavailable during your stay, Pinyon House is an almost identical sister property that’s also located just minutes away from Capitol Reef National Park. This home features incredible views and everything you need for a perfect stay.
2. The Sage House: if you’re traveling in a larger group, the Sage House sleeps 16 guests, making it the perfect family or friends getaway. This is another sister property to Juniper House, so you know you’ll get all the luxuries, but with enough room to bring everyone together.

North Cascades is another Washington national park, located in the North Cascades Mountain Range, which extends from British Columbia to Northern California. It’s home to the largest concentration of glaciers in the lower 48 states, and it covers about 500,000 acres of land.

The North Cascades is one of my favorite places to visit in the fall. You can still hike all of the best trails, but because of the lower temperatures, you won’t face any mosquitoes or midges that harass you in the summer. You’ll also have the chance to see the larch trees change colors; they’re the only coniferous tree to do this, and the trails are often filled with wild berries that you can snack on as you walk.

​At this remote, off-grid cabin, your closest neighbors are the giant cedar trees that make up the forest around you. It’s the nearest home to the Cascades Pass trailhead, meaning that when you stay here, the park is actually on your doorstep. I love looking for unique cabin stays across the Pacific Northwest, and this might just be one of my new favorites. 

​With plenty of natural light, privacy, and a barrel sauna, you’ll find this Vrbo stay to be the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation in the North Cascades.

1. Glamping Dome w/ Hot-tub: If you want to stay somewhere totally unique, that’s also just a 15-minute drive from the North Cascades, check out these cute camping domes. This dome features a private hot tub, an outdoor kitchen, and a fire pit.
2. Secluded Forest Cabin w/ Hot Tub & Private Waterfall: Want your own private waterfall and plenty of hiking trails right out your front door? This unique A-frame cabin offers a lot for adventurous travelers in the North Cascades.
3. North Cascades Getaway: Or maybe you just want a quiet stay, but with a river and a wood-burning hot tub. I would move into this cabin in a heartbeat. 

I know I’ve said this about a couple of parks already… but Grand Teton is another underrated national park (and another one of my favorites). With so many travelers visiting Yellowstone (just an hour away), Grand Teton tends to feel quieter and more rugged. This park is located in the Rocky Mountains and is most famous for the Teton Range, a jagged range of iconic mountain peaks. It’s located near Jackson, Wyoming, which is the perfect place to base yourself during your visit.

Besides incredible hiking, which this park is definitely known for, Grand Teton National Park is also home to an amazing array of wildlife. Just take a drive through the park, and you’ll see photographers stopped around every turn, taking a picture of something. In the Tetons, you have the chance to see bison, foxes, bears, great owls and eagles, moose, and so much more.

​This charming two-bedroom townhouse is located just outside Jackson, Wyoming. You can be at the park within a 10-minute drive, meaning you have the whole of the Tetons on your doorstep. I personally love the wood-burning fireplace, which makes the home even cozier on cool mountain nights.

​When you stay here, you have picturesque walking paths right out your front door and incredible views from every window. Plus, you’re just a few minutes away from Jackson, with its eclectic bars, shops, and restaurants.

1. Outpost: Alpine Cottage Studio: If you want to stay in a traditional log cabin, look no further than this gorgeous Alpine Cottage. This cabin is exactly what I had in mind when I said I wanted to stay in a log cabin, but with an updated interior that beats most traditional homes. You also have access to a shared hot tub and chairs right along the river.
2. Baitshop Cabin: If you want to stay downtown Jackson, I recommend the Baitshop Cabin, located just 2 blocks from the town square. This property means you’ll be able to explore Jackson on foot, and you’ll still be within a 30-minute drive of the park.

If you want to explore two national parks in one road trip, I recommend both Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Park (use this itinerary!) Even though these parks are so close to each other, they couldn’t be more different to explore. Grand Tetons is a place to go if you love mountains and alpine hiking, while Yellowstone is home to this incredible geothermal activity and a landscape that’s unlike anywhere else we’ve traveled.

Yellowstone was the first national park in the entire world. It has a completely otherworldly landscape that people come from all over the world to see. The park encompasses more than 2 million acres, and it’s home to one of the world’s largest active volcano systems. It’s a pretty unique and incredible place to explore.

​While the park covers Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana, for your visit I recommend staying in West Yellowstone, Montana. This way, you’ll be as close to the park as possible, without the added cost of staying directly in the park.

​There’s something about Yellowstone that just makes you want to stay in a rustic cabin in the woods. This cute cabin has been completely renovated, and it makes the perfect home base for your explorations. I love that it’s walking distance from bars and restaurants, only minutes from the park, yet still surrounded by pine trees, peace and quiet.

1. Burnt Hole: Another rustic cabin option that’s perfect if you’re traveling with a few friends, as this can accommodate 6 people. It’s located next to Gallatin National Forest and once again, just minutes away from town and Yellowstone.
2. The Loft: If you want to stay somewhere that’s bright, modern, and airy, the Loft is a gorgeous new property around West Yellowstone. Each room in the Loft has been designed to highlight the beauty of Yellowstone, and they’ve thought of everything you might need for your stay.

Glacier National Park is located in Montana and shares a border with Canada and Waterton Lakes National Park, which, together with Glacier, form the world’s first International Peace Park. It covers over 1 million acres of land, and it’s home to some iconic mountain views, lakes, and hiking trails.

There is so much to do in Glacier National Park, but easily one of my favorite things to do is riding a bike along the famous Going to the Sun Road. The road closes for the winter, and then it slowly reopens as the snow is cleared.

​There’s this period of time before the road is fully opened, when the higher parts are still covered in snow, that you’re allowed to hike or bike as far along as they’ve cleared. You won’t be able to complete the whole road, but you will be able to ride along these incredible mountain views without a single car on the road.

​Trust me, though, you’re going to want to rent an electric bike and give yourself the whole day to explore.

​If you’re looking for the perfect place to stay in Glacier National Park, it doesn’t get much better than this boathouse that sits right on the shores of Lake McDonald. You will, quite literally, wake up and have the national park on your doorstep. Quiet and cozy, this is definitely one of the best national park Vrbo stays in the USA.

1. West Glacier Adobe House: Another option is this unique Adobe house, built away from the noise in the quiet forests surrounding West Glacier. This home has recently been updated using recycled materials, and they’ve done an incredible job. The whole space feels so cozy, and I always love a clawfoot bathtub.
2. Glacier Nat’l Park A-Frame: If you want a hot tub to relax in after a long day of hiking in the park, I recommend finding something like this cute A-frame cabin. It has everything you need for a cozy stay.

This was the very first national park I visited, and it’s safe to say it’s a big part of why I love the parks so much. Yosemite encompasses around 750,000 acres along the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. This park is a hikers, climbers, and photographers’ paradise, and it’s no wonder that it’s one of the busiest parks in the country. That being said, for fewer crowds, I highly recommend going in the shoulder season.  

Yosemite is full of incredible, iconic views, the most famous being El Capitan and Half Dome. El Capitan is considered the largest exposed granite monolith in the world, rising more than 3700 feet above the Valley. Yosemite is also home to some of the tallest waterfalls in the country, like Sentinel Falls, which flows an impressive 2,000 feet.

​Most accommodation around Yosemite is about an hour from the Yosemite Valley Welcome Center. People often stay in Mariposa or Wawona, which means you’ll have a long drive on either end of your visit. However, if you’re able to stay in Yosemite West, you’ll cut that drive in half! That’s just one of the reasons why I love Elmer’s Hideout.

​Besides getting you as close as possible to the park, Elmer’s Hideout is also beautifully furnished with everything you need for your stay, and it has a comfortable balcony where you can decompress after a long day in the park.

1. Beetlebark Bungalow: I love this bungalow, but it’s further from a lot of the main sites of the park. It’s located in Wawona, so it’s about an hour from the Yosemite Valley Welcome Center. It does have the added bonus of a hot tub surrounded by forest.
2. Mountain Dimension: If you want to stay closer to town, and you don’t mind being an hour away from the Yosemite Valley Welcome Center, then there are some incredible accommodation options. Take this beautiful cabin, for example. It’s fitted with a private sauna. Just beware that your drive days will be longer depending on what you want to do in the park.

Joshua Tree National Park, located in Southern California, spans nearly 800,000 acres where the Mojave and Colorado deserts meet. It’s named after the iconic Joshua trees that dot the landscape, and this park is a surreal blend of the two deserts. The elevation can range from 1,000 to over 5,000 feet, which adds to the diversity of this ecosystem. It’s also an International Dark Sky Park, which makes it a paradise for stargazers.

Every single viewpoint in this park is a photographer’s dream, thanks to the unique and iconic Joshua Trees. But this park is also a hiker’s paradise with hidden oases just waiting to be explored. I recommend visiting Keys Views for panoramic vistas and Hidden Valley for its massive boulders. And if you get the chance to visit in the spring, wildflowers bring this desert landscape to life.

​The Leeds Cabin is a historic homesteader cabin that’s set on 5 private acres in the California desert, just 20 minutes from the Joshua Tree village, where you can explore vintage shops, cafes, and restaurants. This home is brightly lit, with a cowboy tub, a hot tub, and an outdoor area where you can watch the stars.

1. Rocky Roost Cabin in Yucca Valley: Escape to your own private desert sanctuary at the Rocky Roost Cabin. This cabin is in the Yucca Valley, meaning you’re closer to shops and restaurants, but a little bit farther away from the park.
2. Marbella Lane: If you want to be less than 5 minutes from the park, with a hot tub and a luxurious bathtub, and you’re traveling with a few friends, then you need to book the house at Marbella Lane. (They also have a one-bedroom chalet that sleeps 2).

Moab is the perfect gateway to two of America’s most breathtaking national parks: Arches and Canyonlands. Arches is world-famous for its 2,000+ sandstone arches, including the iconic Delicate Arch. But Canyonlands, just beyond, is a much less explored, much more rugged wilderness of deep canyons, mesas, and the confluence of the Green and Colorado rivers.

​More than 1.5 million people visit Arches each year, while it’s estimated that between 400,000 and 800,000 visit Canyonlands. If you find yourself in Moab, I recommend exploring both parks. Canyonlands might just surprise you, as it did us.

Moab is a must-visit destination for any National Parks explorer. I recommend hiking to Delicate Arch to watch the sunset and the Milky Way rise over this iconic sandstone arch (remember to pack a headlamp for the hike back). And make sure to visit the Island in the Sky district of Canyonlands for sweeping views.

​The nearby Colorado River provides opportunities for rafting and kayaking. Staying in Moab puts you at the heart of the action, with Vrbo options ranging from cozy cabins to modern retreats, all within a short drive to both parks.

​With so many trees surrounding this cabin, you won’t believe that you’re in the middle of the desert, or that you’re walking distance to the hustle and bustle of Moab. Set on a creek, these three cabins have a shared hot tub that’s perfect for unwinding and watching the stars after a long day of hiking, and each cabin has its own private patio.

1. Kokopelli West: for an affordable, modern option in Moab, check out these homes. They also have a shared hot tub and plenty of covered outdoor space.  
2. The Garden Cottage: a cute garden cottage that’s quiet and perfect for couples. This property also has a hot tub (something I love after a long day of hiking), and it’s still within walking distance of shops and restaurants in Moab.

Acadia National Park, in Maine, is often called the jewel of New England. It encompasses over 49,000 acres of rocky shorelines, lush forests, and Cadillac Mountain, the highest point of the North Atlantic seaboard. Acadia’s blend of ocean and mountain landscapes offers endless opportunities for exploration.

Acadia is a year-round destination. In autumn, the foliage is spectacular, while summer brings ideal conditions for hiking, biking, and kayaking. Don’t miss the scenic Park Loop Road, the Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse, or a sunrise hike up Cadillac Mountain. For a memorable stay, choose a Vrbo in Bar Harbor or Southwest Harbor. Both offer easy access to the park’s wonders and the charm of coastal Maine.

​What I love about this part of the country is the unique architecture of the historic homes. There is something so iconic about these homes that you don’t get in a lot of places in the US. And with this home being less than a ten-minute walk from Acadia National Park, you can walk to the hiking trails and white sandy beaches that make this part of the country so beautiful.

1. Convenient 1 BR in the Center of Acadia: Set away from Bar Harbor, in Mt Desert, this Vrbo gets you closer to the park (only an 8-minute drive from the Cadillac Mountain entrance). I love the private outdoor seating area and the home’s bright lighting.
2. Captain`s Quarters in the Heart of Bar Harbor: Bar Harbor is a great place to base yourself if you want to be close to the conveniences of shops, restaurants, and cafes during your stay. This Vrbo is another classic historic home.

Zion National Park in southwestern Utah is a hiker’s paradise, dominated by towering red cliffs and narrow slot canyons. The park’s centerpiece, Zion Canyon, is a stunning 15-mile-long gorge with walls rising up to 2,500 feet. The Virgin River winds through the canyon, creating lush oases and waterfalls.

Zion is best explored on foot. The two most famous hikes in the park are Angels Landing and the Narrows. Both are challenging hikes that are going to depend on the weather and the crowds, but equally, they’re both worth the effort for some of the most incredible views and unique experiences you can find in a national park. 

I recommend visiting in spring or fall and, as with most of our most popular parks, going mid-week if you can.

​Springdale offers some of the most unique and luxurious Vrbo stays that I’ve seen across the USA. My favorite is the Zion Sage Suites simply because of the breathtaking views from every window. You already know that I love a hot tub, and this Vrbo has it all. The property’s design fits so well into the natural landscape; it’s a really special place.

1. 103 LaFave-Luxury Suite at Zion: If you want a pool and absolute luxury, then look no further. This was even named the Best Luxury Rental around Zion by Conde Nast Traveler. The Zion Suite sleeps four, but there are a few rooms to choose from at this property.

It’s no secret that the Alaska National Parks are some of my favorites in the country, but they can also be remote and hard to explore. What I love about Kenai Fjords is that you still have the land of ice, water, and wildlife, but with conveniences that make this park easier to visit. Kenai Fjords encompasses over 600,000 acres, and it’s home to the massive Harding Icefield, which feeds dozens of glaciers and fjords. It’s coastal cliffs and islands support a thriving ecosystem, including whales, seals, and puffins.

Kenai Fjords is a paradise for wildlife enthusiasts and photographers. Take a boat tour into Resurrection Bay to see calving glaciers and marine life up close. Hiking the Exit Glacier Trail offers stunning views of the icefield. And make sure you have a good lens for wildlife photography, because there is so much life to see in this park. The nearby town of Seward is the perfect base for exploring the park, with Vrbo options ranging from waterfront cabins to cozy lodges.

It can feel like you’re a world away from life back home, and I think that’s part of what gives this park its charm. Booking a classic cabin is one of the best ways to experience Kenai, and luckily, Vrbo has plenty to choose from. Deo’s Alaskan Cabin has everything you need for you to stay and explore Kenai Fjords.

1. Modern Tiny House in Seward: Located just a 7-minute drive from Kenai Fjords National Park Visitor Center, this Vrbo isn’t as remote as Deo’s cabin, instead bringing you a little bit closer to Seward, where you have some of those travel conveniences.
2. The Ledge at Granite Point: This property is remote. It’s not going to be easy to get to, and it’s going to take some more organizing to explore the national park, but that’s all a part of the adventure when you go to Alaska. Accessible only by water taxi, this is the kind of place I hope everyone can experience once in their lives.

The Grand Canyon is one of the seven natural wonders of the world, a mile-deep chasm carved by the Colorado River over millions of years. The park spans over 1.2 million acres in northern Arizona, offering views that stretch to the horizon. The canyon is divided into the South Rim (open year-round) and the more remote North Rim (open seasonally).

The Grand Canyon is definitely a bucket-list destination. Hike the Bright Angel Trail, raft the Colorado River, or simply marvel at the viewpoints like Mather Point or Desert View. Spring and fall bring milder temperatures, while summer offers longer daylight hours. 

It can be a bit harder to find accommodation that’s as close to the national park as some places, but you always have options to hike and camp within the park for a couple of days if you want to extend your adventure.

Book this Grand Canyon Stargazing Off-Grid Home.

​There are a lot of tiny homes and glamping options in the desert around the Grand Canyon, but none seemed as perfect as this tiny home that’s been designed for stargazing with a skylight that shows off the entire Milky Way. This simple home has everything you need for a memorable stay near the Grand Canyon.

1. Tiny Home Venus: If you love the idea of a skylight designed to help you see the Milky Way, this is another great option, located about 30 minutes from the Grand Canyon.
2. Premium Airstream with Private Hot Tub (Unit I): Rent a beautifully remodeled Airstream just 30 minutes from the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Each unit comes with its own hot tub, and I honestly can’t believe how beautiful the bathrooms are.

Redwood National and State Parks in Northern California protect nearly half of all remaining ancient coast redwood trees. The parks span over 130,000 acres and feature groves of towering redwoods that can live for over 2,000 years. The park also includes rugged coastline, rivers, and prairies.

Walking among the redwoods is a humbling experience; you will feel like the tiniest person on the planet here. The Tall Trees Grove and Lady Bird Johnson Grove offer iconic hikes, while the park’s beaches and tide pools provide a dramatic contrast. Summer fog keeps temperatures mild and it’s a good idea to always be prepared for rain.

​You’ll notice that all of the homes I picked for this national park are on the water; that’s because this coastline is part of what makes this place so unique. Of course, you come for the Redwood trees, but I think what draws you in and keeps you coming back is the rugged coastline, where you can look for whales while you have your morning coffee on the balcony. 

1. The “Garage House”: another coastal home that will sweep you away with its panoramic ocean views. This home also has a hot tub, which is one of my favorite features of Vrbo properties (as I’m sure you know by now).
2. Classic home with ocean views: This is another beautiful home with windows I’ll be dreaming about long after I’ve left. With walking trails right out your front door, you’ll never run out of things to do here.

Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado encompasses over 415 square miles of pristine wilderness, including 72 peaks over 12,000 feet. The park is a playground for outdoor enthusiasts, with alpine lakes, wildflower meadows, and abundant wildlife, including elk and bighorn sheep.

Rocky Mountain offers something for everyone. Drive Trail Ridge Road for breathtaking views, hike to Emerald Lake, or fish in one of the many alpine lakes. Fall brings golden aspens and fewer crowds, while winter offers snowshoeing and skiing.

​A classic log cabin, sitting next to a river, with a hot tub? You already know that this Vrbo is exactly what I’m looking for when booking a national park stay. Not only do they have incredible mountain views, but you might just get lucky with wildlife sightings from your riverside backyard. There’s also a bike path that takes you into Rocky Mountain National Park, directly across the road.

1. Mountain Cabin Overlooking Breathtaking Riverfront: for something with higher views, book this mountain cabin that overlooks the river. It still features a hot tub and Adirondack chairs for taking in the views and relaxing after a long day hiking in the park.
2. Quaint and Cozy Cabin in Estes Park: Estes Park is the perfect place to base yourself for your Rocky Mountain Adventure, and at this cozy cabin, you’ll be a lot closer to the action. This means you can grab an easy dinner in town after a day of hiking when you don’t want to think about cooking for yourself.

Virgin Islands National Park covers over 15,000 acres on the island of St. John, offering a tropical paradise of white-sand beaches, coral reefs, and lush hillsides. The park includes historic sugar plantation ruins and vibrant marine life.

St. John is a dream for beach lovers and snorkelers. Trunk Bay’s underwater trail is a must, while Annaberg Sugar Plantation offers a glimpse into the island’s history. The park is best explored by hiking its many trails or kayaking through the mangroves.

​The entire island of St. John’s is incredible, and it’s hard to find somewhere to stay that isn’t just minutes away from the national park, beaches, and snorkeling hotspots on this island. I personally loved this option, which is set away from the main town and features a private pool where you can unwind each day. And even though you’re set a bit further away from the beach, you still have ocean views from the pool. 

1. Flamingo House: If you want to be walking distance from downtown, it’s a great option. This is a cute and cozy apartment with ocean and sunset views.
2. Ocean view cottage: You can also stay in this brand-new cottage with some of the most beautiful views I’ve seen on Vrbo. Just imagine having your coffee overlooking the sea each morning. 

Badlands National Park in South Dakota is a surreal landscape of eroded buttes, pinnacles, and spires. The park’s nearly 250,000 acres showcase layers of sedimentary rock, fossils, and prairie grasslands. It’s a place where the earth’s history is laid bare.

Badlands is a photographer’s dream. The sunrise and sunset light cast dramatic shadows over the eroded cliffs, while the Fossil Exhibit Trail offers a glimpse into the park’s prehistoric past. The park is also a prime spot for wildlife viewing, including bison and bighorn sheep. I recommend taking some time to learn about the park’s history and the native lands while you’re there.​ I recommend staying in Wall and visiting Wall Drug, which is all a part of a fun Badlands adventure.
