We need some clothes that can stand up to all the slot canyons we shimmy through, so we made the Stoic Desert Short. Durable nylon stays strong on the trail and the occasional canyoneering adventure, and there's a mesh liner to add ventilation and a comfy fit. The free-moving relaxed fit includes a drawstring waistband to keep our shorts on when we see rattlers on the trail. Plenty of pockets separate our granola bars from our wrappers.

Love them but

They run really small. I originally wanted the green and red ones, but they only had the pink and orange in my size. Or what I thought was my size. The small squeezes my waist so much and rides up my butt. However, they’re so cute. The black is in my size but I want colored ones so hopefully they come back next season!

These shorts are very cute and fashion forward the only thing I will say is they run a little tight in the waist. I ordered my usual XS and they fit everywhere except the waist which is a tad snug. I'm 5'3 and weigh 107 pounds with a 24 1/2 inch waist. I'd recommend sizing up 1 size.

I wear an x-small through and through (so that's what I ordered) and have pretty narrow hips. When first trying these on, these barely cleared my hips and fit a little too snug on my waist. These aren't the longest in the back but that's fine with me and my little booty, but if you have a bigger one, that might be a problem. I would recommend these to you if you are someone with smaller curves, just don't forget to size up!

I have yet to wear them out but they fit great and are so comfy! Runs true to size. My legs and waist are "bigger" compared to my height and weight so I went with the small (my waist is like 26").

I fell in love with the pink and orange combo but it sold out online before I could purchase it. i saw it in stores and got the last size large they had. I wish the crotch shape was a bit different bc it does ride up your bum when hiking. I read the other reviews about it being a booty short so I went up one size and im very happy with how it fits. This is a high waisted short meant to be worn at your belly button. I love that Backcountry is doing some more fashion forward pieces bc it is making my hiking outfits really fun !

Not great for anyone with hips

These look cute on the model, but I put them on and there was just this expanse of pulling fabric between the pockets, and the pockets themselves didn't look good either. The fabric in the back wasn't fitted to the butt either, but just draped straight down. I expected a looser, cotton-type fabric but that's not what these are. Maybe needed to have sized up but then they'd probably be even more unflatteringly baggy.

These to run slightly small. I ultimately decided to go with my regular size and I'm glad I did. These have become my go to shorts for the hot summers running around with my kids.

Better suited for a different body type

I really wanted to like these shorts but they just don't fit right for me. They would probably be better suited for a non-hourglass shape. I typically wear a 29-31 in denim and 8-12 in pants and the size L was much too tight in the waist. I would size up but I think that would make the legs comically large.

These shorts are super cute and flattering! I ordered the pink and orange colorway and love how fun and bright they are. Excited to wear these for summer hikes, paddle boarding/river excursions, and to hang around the campsite in. I usually wear a size 24 or XS in bottoms and sized up to a small and these ended up fitting me perfectly. And, the high waisted fit pairs great with crop tops!

great length, loose in the leg but slightly tight in waist, I bought my usual size, medium, and should've sized up for a comfier waist fit
